Where is hogsmeade
The place is so interesting that revoking the Hogsmeade visit privileges of students was considered a grave punishment. One of the biggest concerns is definitely the regulation on magic. What are the spell limits in place for students who are visiting Hogsmeade? Why is the village so dependent on Hogwarts for its sustenance, why is Hogsmeade not an independent tourist locale in the wizarding world? Here are just a few details about the village that don't make sense:.
Hogsmeade is the only-existing all-wizards village in the Potter-verse, and therein lies its intrigue and charm. But how does Hogsmeade retain its exclusivity? What will happen if a muggle comes into the village? As Hogsmeade is located just down the road from Hogwarts, the school and the village have always shared a special relationship.
On select Saturdays throughout the school year the village is filled with Hogwarts students, who are allowed to visit beginning in their third year GF12 ; some of the Hogwarts teachers, including Hagrid PS14 and Dumbledore HBP25 , visit more frequently.
The railway station that serves the village is actually on the other side of Hogwarts map by JKR , and this is where the Hogwarts Express drops students off at the beginning of each school year GF Hogsmeade and Hogwarts have a shared history, as well.
There are at least eight secret passages that run between the school and Hogsmeade PA10 , all but two of which were built for reasons unknown PA18 , DH Editor: Steve VanderArk. Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack When Remus Lupin came to Hogwarts as a werewolf, this passageway was built and the Whomping Willow planted to give him a place to go when he transformed every full moon.
In a boarding school situation, the Town visits typified by the Hogsmeade weekend are used as a way of relieving pressure on the students. The school, acting in loco parentis for the students, is responsible for them, and therefore must be able to control them at all times.
However, keeping them entirely on the school grounds makes school feel like a prison to the students. Thus, allowing the occasional visit off the school property is a release of tension for the students, and likely for the teachers as well. In the series, it allows the introduction of characters from outside the walls of the school, such as Madam Rosmerta , and to a certain extent also allows stories from outside the school to reach the students.
Additionally, it provides a place where students can meet outside the confines of the school buildings, and thus supposedly away from observation by teachers. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , the town seems to be falling on hard times; in particular, following Katie Bell being injured by a cursed necklace she apparently got in Hogsmeade, all Hogsmeade weekends are canceled. Apparently, Zonko's joke shop closes for lack of business, causing Fred and George to re-think their idea of opening a branch there.
The lack of student visits is bound to cause hardship for many other shops in the village as well, including the Three Broomsticks, Honeyduke's, and Madam Puddifoot's, all of which are usually filled to capacity on Hogsmeade weekends. Anyone on the streets after sunset will trigger an alarm, the Caterwaul, which will summon Death Eaters from where they stand watch, apparently The Three Broomsticks. The Hog's Head, it transpires, is suffered to remain operating as a place where business can be transacted without being watched; while the Death Eaters are not happy about not being in control there, they still have business that they prefer to carry out unmonitored by their fellow wizards, Dark or otherwise.
The D. The first meeting was held in the Hog's Head pub. This is the first time any of the trio had been inside the dingy pub, Ron sarcastically commented on how lovely it was.
Hermione thought that the group would be safer at a more secluded spot, rather then one filled with numerous people. Sirius Black however debased this notion, the fact that if the pub they held their meeting in had heavier traffic flow then less chances of being overheard.
Mundungus Fletcher was present in the pub and told the Order everything he overheard. It only got worse when Cho started talking about Cedric , which made her cry, and when Harry mentioned in a way that led to misunderstandings Hermione Granger she became jealous and left dramatically, to the astonishment of the whole tearoom who stopped to watch them. Harry swiftly paid for the coffee and chased after her, but she had already disappeared from the street. Harry's visitation rights for Hogsmeade were later revoked by Dolores Umbridge as punishment for illegally distributing his interview in The Quibbler , but was lifted at the end of the year following Umbridge's removal from the school.
In the next school year, Madam Rosmerta was put under the Imperius Curse and through her, Katie Bell was also placed under the same curse in order to smuggle the opal necklace into Hogwarts in a plot to kill Professor Albus Dumbledore , attempted by Draco Malfoy. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Horace Slughorn rallied the residents of Hogsmeade to come to the aid of those fighting at Hogwarts.
The Hog's Head Inn contained a secret passageway into Hogwarts ' Room of Requirement , also served as a route for Order of the Phoenix members and supporters to enter the school to join the battle. The secret passageway also served as a means to evacuate underage students from the school.
The connection might have been broken since Vincent Crabbe unleashed Fiendfyre inside the Room of Hidden Things, although it is unknown if it completely destroyed the Room of Requirement or merely that particular form of it.
