HI all, Eurocarparts are sure that its the red stuff I need, several other motor factors said red, BMW say blue, when I phoned eurocarparts again they said blue, online say blue What do I need?
This is a lifetime fill coolant system, do you have a leak or need to replace bits of the system or something? Nah its running way too hot as there is pretty much just water in there, since the hot weather you can tell its running too hot. I was going to flush it and put a new mix in there so it has coolant.
Seems to be some people saying blue, some people saying red. I don't think it matters if you use blue or red as long as it has been flushed and you are not mixing them.
Odd question and slightly OT, why would it be a lifetime fluid? Does it not need changing as per other older cars? The regular BMW coolant isn't hugely expensive so you could get it direct from them if you wanted to ensure it was the correct stuff.

Be careful to follow the mixing instructions. Too much water is inadequate for proper boilover and freeze-protection. On the other hand, too much antifreeze concentrate may cause your engine to overheat.
However, this is not recommendable. Always ensure you have a spare coolant at boot of your car for such cases. Water helps to cool down the engine but not as well as a coolant. Water boils fast yet at a lower temperature than the genuine coolant.
Its primary purpose is to absorb the excess heat generated by a running engine. Coolant deteriorates with time. Therefore, it is recommendable to check your engine coolant at least twice a year.
Alternatively, you can schedule your checks after every 30, or 50, miles. If the coolant level has gone down, you should top it up.
